non-fiddly solution

Posted by: blissfule In: Perth ()

Huge thanks to everyone who commented on my 7 Quick Takes: Food Edition post last Friday.

After reading through what you had to say, I ate some lunch.

Exciting - I know.

But that's when I had my 'Eureka' moment!

I think it was a combo of Megan encouraging me to try small containers and Jennifer mentioning that hers sometimes flip over in the dishwasher and fill with water that made me remember.

Yogurt jars!!

The Isis brand organic whole milk yogurt in Egypt came in these convenient little glass jars. I put them in my dishwasher and sometimes the lids would flip over and fill with water. But most of the time they didn't flip, and I ended up collecting a lot of these jars. I gave some away for people to store their own spice blends, and others I filled with little gifts of apple butter. But that still left me with a lot of glass yogurt jars.

Envisioning a future for them as paint pots and apple butter bottles, I had the movers wrap each one carefully and thus they set sail to our current home in Perth.

And now, they are my non-fiddly solution for leftovers! I imagine the lids will occasionally flip over, but they don't have those little lips to catch water in a semi-permanent fashion. And glass won't stain or smell funny after a while.

Thanks to each of you for playing a part in this happy triumph!
