It's been nearly nine years for me - definitely time to take a refresher course. Thanks for the reminder!

My last first aid course was at my previous job, so almost 5 years ago. Well, probably right on 5 because I was VERY pregnant at the time... Anyway, I know I'm due for a refresher, but I feel like I remember everything well. Thank God I haven't had to use any of it, but I think I could do it. We also have the defibrillators (spelling?) in our building at work and have received basic training on those as well. Good for you for taking the class! It never hurts to have the reminder.

Actually, I just used the infant Heimlich manuever part of the Basic Life Support class I took last year. 2 days ago, Gideon was choking on a piece of cantalope (he's too greedy and tries to swallow big pieces whole instead of chewing them up). It was like second nature to me to grab him, turn him upside down, face towards the floor, and use the heel of my hand to hit his back between his shoulder blades. It worked quickly and beautifully. I've never had to actually use this info before, but was so glad I knew what to do when we needed it. Gideon is fine now (though he was scared and upset for quite a while afterwards). Knowing what to do was great because I actually didn't even really think about it. It had been drilled into my head so much by the classes over the years.
